Selected Countries: China, Japan, Mongolia, Philippines, and Turkey. These countries were selected due to their unique diversity, colorful culture, and locational disparity. All to serve the purpose of having a variety of learning experiences.
China: The reason I (Michele) choose to focus on the country of China is that I was interested to find out more about the people, the climate, and the lifestyle of the Chinese people. As an American, I am always surprised that 'Made in China' is on the tags of the majority of the items we buy as consumers and this gave me the opportunity to find out more about the country that we purchase so much from. Also, knowing that China has the world's largest population intrigued me to find out what kind of location is handling this amount of people.
Japan: I (Chrissy) have always been fascinated by Japan and all it has to offer. Throughout the process of researching and making this web-page, I have learned a plethora of information and facts about Japan's physical and biological geography, and it's wonderful and exhilarating culture. I chose to research and write about Japan because of the strength and sense of community Japan exemplifies. Japan also intrigued me because it is very similar in many ways to the United States but in other ways very different.
Mongolia: I (Mike) chose to develop a section about Mongolia to inform the students about a country that not many people know about, but according to land area is one of the biggest countries in the world. Another reason that I chose Mongolia is because they are strategically located between two of the most powerful countries, China and Russia.
Philippines: I (Lauren) have always heard of all the beauty that lies in the many islands of the Philippines. I currently have a family member whose care giver is a Filipino woman. She always describes how wonderful her country is, and hopes that she will be able to return to her family someday soon. Listening to her talk about her country made me want to inquire more about the country, and to find out what her "home" is like. In addition to her descriptions, the food she has prepared for our family is exceptional! Personally knowing a citizen of this country is another benefit for my selection, when implementing this with potential students I will have first hand a real resource to speak with about the country, and gain further insight.
Turkey: I (Brittany) chose to do my section of the website on the country of Turkey because I honestly knew nothing about it. I feel like it is one of the countries in Asia that not many people know about, and is sometimes forgotten about when talking about Asia. It also interested me that geographically it is apart of two continents (Asia and Europe), but is technically apart of Asia.
